The approximately 750 maps in the online atlas cover the whole globe interactively, linking to each other, and directly to articles on continents, countries, states, provinces, cities and other places shown on the maps.

Back in Time

The approximately 14,000 historic articles from past World Book Year Books present a you-are-there account of the most significant events of each year. Users can search or browse for topics or find links to Back in Time articles in the Related Information box within many World Book articles.

Citation Builder

The citation builder provides the user with a clear format of how to cite the sources they are most likely to encounter (printed and online books, reference sources, magazines, newspapers, etc.). The citation builder offers Modern Language Association (MLA), American Psychological Association (APA), and Harvard bibliography style formats.

Dictionary

The dictionary contains approximately 250,000 entries. On pages with the Tools box, users can double-click on any word on the page to be taken to the entry in the dictionary for the selected word. [Some proper nouns, and most numbers, are not included in the dictionary.]

E-books

World Book Advanced includes thousands of full-text English-language electronic books (e-books) in the areas of fiction and non-fiction, as well as books in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Latin, Flemish, and Portuguese. E-books are accessible through the E-book Center on the homepage as well as the main search box. The E-book Center enables users to search and browse the e-book collection by author, title, genre, and language. The e-books' contents are listed in the left-hand index column, allowing users to skip directly to the section they want. A selection of the most popular e-books can be downloaded for use on portable reading devices. E-books are available in ePub and Mobi formats. In the headlines is a feature that provides current news headlines via RSS feeds from Reuters News. RSS (really simple syndication) service is a means by which Reuters News offers feeds of story headlines to World Book Advanced in XML format.

World Book Advanced provides primary sources in the form of documents, letters, books, speeches, articles, records, interviews, and images. Primary sources are documents created during the time period studied or well after in the form of memoirs and oral histories.

World Book Advanced offers audio clips of bird songs, popular and classical music, national anthems, and much more. Teaching with Documents

World Book Advanced's Teaching with Documents are lesson plans focusing on one or more primary source images. The Teaching with Documents pieces feature historical background text, enlargeable images, discussion questions, worksheets, and book lists. The title list, categorized by topic, is available here. New Teaching with Documents will be added regularly; check back for updates.

Timelines

World Book Advanced offers hundreds of generated timelines, which cover various time periods in history or span the life of historical public figures. World Book Advanced also provides users the opportunity to build their timelines, adding events, descriptions, and images.
