Smith, Gordon Harold
(1952-...), was a member of the United States Senate from 1997 to 2009. Smith, a Republican, represented Oregon.

Smith was born in Pendleton, Oregon, on May 25, 1952. He received a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1976 and a law degree from Southwestern University in 1979. He worked first as a law clerk and then as a lawyer. Since 1981, Smith has been owner and president of Smith Frozen Foods and has become a millionaire. From 1995 to 1997, he served in the Oregon state Senate. He was elected to his first term in the U.S. Senate in 1996 and took office in 1997. He was reelected to the Senate in 2002 but failed to win reelection in 2008.
