The maps in the online atlas cover the whole globe interactively, linking to each other and directly to articles on continents, countries, states, provinces, cities and other places shown on the maps.

The approximately 14,000 historic articles from past World Book Year Books present a you-are-there account of the most significant events of each year. Users can search or browse for topics or find links to Back in Time articles in the Related Information box within many World Book articles.

Correlations from your state's or province's curriculum standards to World Book Student content are available from the Curriculum Correlations link under the "For Educator"s header on the homepage of World Book Student. Links from the World Book content to your curriculum standards appear in the left-hand column of article pages.
World Book Student's dictionary is based on the World Book Student Discovery, with thousands of illustrations and pictures. The dictionary can be accessed from the Dictonary homepage, accessible from the link on the homepage of World Book Student, or by doubleclicking a word in the site, which will bring up the definition in the dictionary overlay.
World Book Student offers thousands of easy-to-read encyclopedia articles on a broad variety of topics. A browse feature helps visual learners and uncertain spellers navigate the site by clicking through the topics, starting with the browse feature on the homepage of World Book Student.
World Book Student's "How to Do Research" feature provides tutorials and exercises for students and educators on 21st century information literacy skills. The student section provides a step-by-step tutorial for the research process, including how to find and evaluate print and digital information, how to organize and cite the sources, and templates for research papers. The educators' section (coming in August 2008) covers how to teach research skills, including how to structure assignments so the students can successfully reach the goals set for them.
Video tutorials on World Book Student are available under the "How To Use This Site" link under the "For Educators" area of the homepage. The videos are in Flash format and require the free Flash plug-in from Adobe to view. (The plug-in is installed on most browsers and can be downloaded from the Adobe site at the Adobe site).
EBSCO Content Solutions provides relevant magazine articles published in the last three years for many World Book articles. Users can find magazine articles within the Related Information boxes of many articles.
World Book Student's My Research page is based on individual log-in and IDs set up by the user. World Book articles, images, life skills activities, Web sites, and timelines can be saved to a user's My Research account, with separate folders for different projects.
Pictures in World Book Student include photographs, animal illustrations, and much more. Click on the thumbnail within an article to view the picture in a separate window, then print pictures by selecting the Print option from the Tools box.
World Book Student offers audio clips of bird songs, popular and classical music, national anthems, and much more. To play sound clips, video clips, and animations, users will need the Adobe Flash plug-in. (The plug-in is installed on most browsers and can be downloaded from the Adobe site at the Adobe site).
The nearly 400 in-depth feature articles focus on issues surrounding timely topics, important current events, and obituaries of famous people. Users can search or browse for topics or find links to Special Reports in the Related Information box within many World Book articles.

Use our special feature to dip into imaginary news sites from Ancient Times, The Middle Ages, or Modern Times. Then, link to dozens of e-zines, want ads, bookstores, and other types of simulated Web sites, written from the perspective of the time.
World Book Student's tables cover a huge range from facts about countries and other places, to important dates. Tables can be accessed two ways:
- Tables are listed in the left-hand index column of the search results page. Clicking on that link will display the list of relevant tables, 15 at a time.
- Tables are included within selected articles.
World Book Student offers generated timelines that cover various time periods in history or span the life of historical public figures. World Book Student also provides users the opportunity to build their timelines, adding their own events and descriptions. You can access timelines in two ways: select the Timelines links from the Reference Tools section of the homepage, or select timelines from the search results page. "Choose a World Book Timeline" or "Create Your Own Timeline."
View a World Book timeline: Select a category under the header "Choose a World Book Timeline" on the left-hand side and expand it by clicking on the header, then select a timeline from the list by clicking on the title.
Create Your Own Timeline: Click "Create New Timelines" on the right side of the page. You can then add your own dates, by entering the event text, then start date and end date, if applicable. Click "Add this event" and the event will appear in the list of events on the right-hand side of the page.
You can add events from the World Book database of events by clicking on the button "Search World Book events" at the top of the timeline section. Enter a search term in the box at the top of the left-hand side of the page and select "Search events." To add events to your timeline, select "Add", and the event will appear in the list of events on the right-hand side of the page.
When your timeline is complete, name your timeline in the box at the top of the right-hand column, then click "View timeline."
Save a timeline: Note: To save a timeline to your My Research account, you must log in to your account before you build the timeline.
World Book Student offers videos and animations, including historical footage, animal scenes, and interactive animations. To view the videos, users will need the Adobe Flash plug-in, which is already installed on most browsers. Editors have selected more than 7,000 Web sites, which are linked to relevant World Book articles. Users can find Web sites within the Related Information boxes of most articles.
